A note to our non-parishioner friends:  As a parochial school, we are heavily supported by St. Paul Catholic Church parishioners.  Tuition pays approximately 36% of our school costs; the remainder is covered by the church financial support, corporate and individual matching funds and miscellaneous income.  We expect our parishioner families to support the church and through their support, the school.  Our higher tuition rates of non-parishioners, both Catholic and non-Catholic, are not intended to discourage or exclude anyone, but rather reflect their portion of St. Paul Catholic Church's support.  The total cost for a child's education is approximately $7,500.

The Preschool Experience

Hello, I am Suzy Satterfield, the St. Paul Preschool teacher.  I have 29 years of teaching experience in the area of young children's education.  St. Paul and I offer programs for children of various age groups:

  • Three/four year-old program

    • This is usually a child's first experience with organized interaction with children of his/her own age.  We move the child from individual play to learning to play with their peers.  They learn to share, take turns, and extend their attention span for listening and following directions.  Many different activities teach shapes, colors, name recognition and development of small motor skills.  If your child is three or four, they may attend Tuesday thru Thursday.  This is a three day program.  If you wish your child to attend only two days, it will be Wednesday & Thursday.  the time is 8:30 am to 11:00 am.

  • Four year-old program - three afternoons per week

    • This class opens the possibility for fours to experience more school time.  The children build on the above social interaction, small motor skills are expanded, and academic materials are introduced, as the child becomes ready.  The children will learn to recognize, spell, and in most cases write their first and last names.  They will learn their colors, shapes, and be introduced to all of the letters and sounds.  They will be exposed to numbers both counting and conceptual.  We learn by doing and hands-on activities.  The children will participate in art, cooking, singing, pretending, reading, listening, and preparing for kindergarten.  This is for children who plan on attending Kindergarten the following year.  The activity level is somewhat more intense because we are preparing for Kindergarten and their skill levels are more advanced at this age.

  • Four/five year-old program - four afternoons per week

    • This program is for those children who have summer birthdays, have attended the a.m. programs or will be entering kindergarten the following fall.  The program expands on the academic skills that are taught in the four-year old class and works on small motor skills and social interaction.  This class focuses on kindergarten readiness.

Christian values and concepts are present in all that I teach.  I feel God is involved in all aspects of our life and should be involved in everything we learn.

I will love, teach and nurture your child.  He/she will learn, laugh, pretend, play, and learn to pray.  I hope you will come and visit our school and all it has to offer.

"Miss Suzy"

Kindergarten

The St. Paul Catholic Church mission statement includes the words, "..to pass on the faith we have received from the apostles to our children and to others".  The mission of the St. Paul School Kindergarten is to make children feel secure and successful in school as we pass on that faith.

The program is designed around a developmentally appropriate approach.  Children are encouraged to learn on their own through active participation and interaction with the teacher, classmates and developmentally appropriate materials.  The teacher recognizes the varying levels and interests of the children.  The children are allowed to develop at their own pace through activities which include physical movement, active communication, and individual and group problem solving.

Learning is centered around activities which are meaningful and relevant to the children.  Integrated themes bring learning to a natural level as the children experience spontaneous and instructive play in the classroom through activities which draw together reading, math, writing and science, with art and music.

Of primary importance is the independence and well being of each child.  Each child is accepted for where they are, and through choice, encouragement and manipulative activities, they gain a sense of competence, individuality and responsibility.
