St. Paul Catholic School (SPCS) offers a challenging curriculum intended to prepare students academically and spiritually for life’s challenges. The staff at SPCS see their jobs as a ministry. They strive to develop the whole student to become the best person they can be and to provide them with a foundation for the future.

Kindergarten through 8th Grade
Each teacher has a core curriculum guide provided by the Dioceses specific to the applicable grade level. The guides enrich the curriculum as determined by the Indiana Department of Education. Parents with questions regarding curriculum may contact their child’s teacher.
Homework is assigned to help students become self-reliant and self-directed and assignments reinforce the classroom lessons. It is assigned at the discretion of the teacher. Such assignments are appropriate for the students’ age and grade-level. While student capabilities and interests vary, generally speaking, grades 1 and 2 should have 20 minutes of homework; grades 3 and 4, forty minutes; and grades 5 and 6, one hour. Parents with questions regarding homework may contact their child’s teacher.
Subject areas taught include Religion, Math, English, Science, Reading, Technology, Music, Art and Physical Education. Classes take field trips that are deigned to correlate with teaching units. All students take the Northwest Evaluation Association (NWEA) assessment in the fall and spring semester. Additionally, grades 3 through 6 take the statewide test as directed by the Indiana Department of Education.
Parent/teacher conferences are scheduled once per year, near the completion of the first nine weeks. The academic year consists of two semesters with each semester made of up of approximately two nine week grading periods. Parents may request a conference with his/her child’s teacher at any time during the school year.
Grading Scale & Report Cards
SPCS uses a grading scale set by the Diocese of Lafayette School Corporation. It is as follows: 94-100 A, 85-93 B, 75-84 C, 70-74 D, 69 and below F. Students are recognized for honor roll beginning the second semester of their third grade year. Honor Roll is outlined as:
SPCS utilizes SchoolSpeak, an online communication and grade book system, which allows parents to check their student’s progress throughout the school year. Report cards are issued after the completion of each nine week grading period.
ISTEP Scores
ISTEP testing is one way to evaluate education in Indiana Schools. These state standardized tests access student knowledge in Language Arts, Science, Math and Social Studies.
