The Members of St. Paul Parish are gathered by the Holy Spirit to worship God in word, action and sacrament and to serve Jesus Christ by serving others, especially the poor and needy. We are committed to handing on the faith we have received from the Apostles to our children and others.
Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, who gave himself for our sins that he might rescue us from the present evil age in accord with the will of our God and Father, to whom be glory forever and ever. (Galatians 1:3-5)
In 1868 the parish of St. Paul was founded in Marion to serve the Catholic people of central Indiana. Our patron saint was the first great theologian of the Church and his missionary spirit is the legacy we have inherited in our commitment to Catholic formation and education. In the first century, it was Paul of Tarsus who traveled throughout the Roman Empire to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He spoke the truth to Jew and Greek, slave and free, male and female. All nations and peoples were his parish. He speaks to us still in his letters and we continue his missionary work in the twenty-first century at this parish who bears his name. Although the world has changed, the work of the Gospel continues with the same urgency. Here at St. Paul, we may prefer the contemporary languages of Spanish or English, but our common faith has called us into a communion of saints with the Great Church. As members of the Body of Christ, we are all citizens of God’s Kingdom that includes all times and places, peoples and nations. This empowers us to continue the legacy of our patron and fearlessly teach the Gospel of Jesus Christ to our children and to all those whom God places in our path. The people of St. Paul remain committed to authentic Catholic education and Christian formation that is rooted in Sacred Scripture and the Sacraments of the Church. Our school and parish formation efforts seek to enrich our youth and adults in the work of salvation won for us in Christ. We are pleased to work with other Christians in sharing this treasure with those who are seeking the light and truth of the Gospel. What we have freely been given, we freely give to others. All are welcome here at St. Paul and we are grateful to God that you have chosen to join with us in this Great Commission to bring all things together in Christ Jesus our Lord.
